Matthew Hopkins and Stuart Parsons, directors at BoxLogic were pleased to attend Wincanton’s 2023 Consultant’s Day on 13th October 2023. The event is an opportunity for consultants to get a closer look at the innovative approaches being taken by one of the largest third-party logistics service providers in Britain, network with fellow professionals and gain insight from industry leading speakers.
Hosting the event was Cygnia’s DC7 in the Swan Valley development of Northampton. Cygnia is an ecommerce fulfilment expert that was acquired by Wincanton in 2021. The highlight of the operation is the AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot) solution featuring goods-to-person robots presenting shelves to workstations for replenishing stock and picking orders.
A tour of the automation solution was included within the agenda, with consultants having the opportunity to experience the throughput and ergonomic benefits of goods-to-person picking. Other aspects of the programme comprised:
- A talk with automation and robotics expert, Mike Wilson of the Manufacturing Technology Centre
- A presentation from Louise Hellem of the CBI, discussing the state of the economy and the necessity for greater investment to boost productivity
- A walkthrough Wincanton’s approach to deploying automation in its operations
- An overview of the latest health and safety training incorporating virtual reality learning
It was an insightful day to learn how one of the largest 3PLs in the UK is developing its operations to adapt to the challenging demands of the industry. Thank you to everyone involved in organising a fantastic day.
